Pointing

Classic Cornish cottage lime job. Repointed front aspect. We bag-rubbed the gable and the garden wall. We also removed a chimney that was causing damp.

At Cornish Lime Builders, we work with the property, not against it. With over twenty years’ experience, we specialise in lime pointing for Cornwall’s traditional stone buildings. A suitable lime mortar allows walls to breathe and move gently, helping protect the stone itself. Each project begins with careful preparation, raking out failed mortar, removing hard cement, and thoroughly cleaning and dampening the joints. We choose the mortar, the sand, and the finish to suit each building, matching its character and exposure. After application, we cure slowly, using damp hessian and finishing carefully so the joints are strong, breathable, and visually sympathetic. Our focus is conservation through thoughtful repair. Retain what’s sound, respect how the building manages moisture, and avoid unnecessary replacement. So, whether we’re restoring a granite cottage or a historic facade, our goal is the same: careful lime pointing that protects and preserves.
